Nemoura lacustris Pictet, 1865 View in CoL

Material examined. Rif: Ouazzane, Ouargha subwaterched of Sebou v., Fifi rills spr., 15.04.2005, 1300 m, 1 male, 1 female, 11L (ERR).

Distribution ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ). A West Mediterranean species occurring in France ( Le Doaré & Vinçon 2006), Spain and extending in the Moroccan mountain ranges through the Rif and up to the northern edge of the Middle Atlas (Tierno de Figueroa et al. 2003, Errochdi et al. 2014 and Vinçon et al. 2014).

Ecology. Larvae are cold stenothermic and crenophilic, occurring only in high altitude brooks and springs (1200–1800 m) ( Aubert 1961, Errochdi & El Alami 2008, Errochdi et al. 2014) ( Figs. 13 View FIGURE 13 –15). In Spain it is more eurytopic (15–1800 m) ( Sánchez-Ortega et al. 2003, Tierno de Figueroa et al. 2003) and in septentrional localities of France, it only occurs in the foothills, and associated with calcareous substratum (Reding and G. Vinçon, personal observations). The immature larvae appear to be detritivorous and gradually change to become more herbivorous ( Azzouz & Sánchez-Ortega 2000). The adults emerge in spring (III–VI).
