Type material

Holotype: „, Taiwan: Nantou county 1100m, 20. XI. 1997, Kazuhiro Masunaga (KU). Paratypes: one „, same data as holotype (KU); 3 „„, Guangxi: Jinxiu, Hekou, 24. VII. 2005, Yinxia Liao (CAU).

Diagnosis

The new species is similar to Chaetogonopteron menglonganum Yang and Grootaert from Yunnan, but may be separated from the latter by having the mid tibia with two long and strong pv and the fore tarsomere 2 swollen with two rows of v. In menglonganum , the mid tibia has no strong v, the fore tarsomere 2 is not swollen without rowed v ( Yang and Grootaert 1999a).

Description

Male. Body length 2.8–3.5 mm, wing length 3.7–4.9 mm.

Head metallic green, with pale grey pollinosity; eyes contiguous on face. Hairs and bristles on head black; lower postocular bristles (including posterior ventral hairs) pale. Antenna dark yellow; first flagellomere dark brown with round apex, 1.2 times longer than wide; arista dorsal, dark brown, very short pubescent, with basal segment rather short ( Figure 4B View Figure 4 ). Proboscis brownish with black hairs; palpus dark yellow with black hairs and one apical bristle.

Thorax yellow, with pale grey pollinosity; mesonotum metallic green with wide anterior and lateral portions dark yellow; scutellum metallic green with lateral margin yellow; pteropleuron with a black dot on antero-upper corner; laterotergite with brown anterior margin. Hairs and bristles on thorax black; six strong dc (first dc weak), acr absent. Propleuron with two black hairs on lower part. Scutellum with one pair of apical bristles rather long and one pair of basal bristles somewhat short. Legs yellow; all coxae yellow, mid coxa with a anterior black strip and a very small black dot on postero-upper corner; fore and mid tarsomere 5 dark brown, hind tarsomeres 3–5 brownish. Hairs and bristles on legs black; fore coxa with four to six apical bristles, mid coxa with one anterior bristle, hind coxa with one outer bristle at basal third. Fore femur with one to two pv apically, mid and hind femora each with one preapical bristle. Mid tibia with two ad, one pd, one row of strong pv on basal two-thirds, and row of curved av on apical two-thirds, apically with three bristles; hind tibia with two ad, two to three pd and row of av, apically with three bristles. Fore tarsomere 1 distinctly elongated (longer than total length of other four segments), with row of four to six av on basal fifth and two rows of v on other part, tarsomere 2 swollen with two rows of curved v ( Figures 4C, E View Figure 4 ); mid tarsomere 1 with two curved and one long and strong v on basal two-fifths; hind tarsomeres 1–2 shortened and subequal in length, segment 2 with a furcated worm-like appendage, segment 3 distinctly elongated (longer than total length of other 4 segments) with one row of erect v ( Figures 4D, F View Figure 4 ). Relative lengths of tibia and five tarsomeres LI 7.0:6.0:1.3:2.4:0.6:0.4; LII 10.0:7.6:4.0:2.9:1.3:0.6; LIII 13.3:1.0:0.9:5.0:2.5:0.5. Wing hyaline, tinged with grey ( Figure 4A View Figure 4 ); veins brown, R 4+5 and M parallel apically, M weakly bent at middle; CuAx ratio 1.1. Squama brown with dark margin, and with long black hairs. Halter brown.

Abdomen black, lateral and ventral portions dark yellow. Hairs and bristles on abdomen black. Male genitalia ( Figure 4G View Figure 4 ). Epandrium distinctly longer than wide, with two lateral lobes, bearing long bristles apically; surstylus with long and curved dorsal lobe, bearing one bristle at middle, and wide ventral lobe with apical bristle; cercus long and round; hypandrium rather wide.

Female. Unknown.

Etymology

The specific name refers to the type locality Taiwan .

Distribution

Taiwan (Nantou), Guangxi (Jinxiu).
