Diagnosis. Palps not more than 4 times longer than wide. Antero-lateral setae numerous (80–120 pairs). Setae dm1 tapered or paddle-shaped. Setae dm3 absent. Peripheral setae tapered or paddle-shaped and arranged in 1 row. Genital series represented by 1 or 3 pairs of setae g. Four pairs of pseudanal setae present: setae ps1 and ps2 paddleshaped, rounded or cylindrical; setae ps3 and ps4 rounded.

Pterygosoma angolae Jack, 1962 , Pterygosoma armatum Lawrence, 1936 , Pterygosoma bedfordi Lawrence, 1936 , Pterygosoma benguellae Jack, 1962 , Pterygosoma capensis Jack, 1962 , Pterygosoma hirsti Lawrence, 1936 , Pterygosoma longipalpae Lawrence, 1936 , Pterygosoma melanus Hirst, 1917 .

Distribution. These mites are found in the southern part of the Afrotropic ecozone.

Host range. This group is found exclusively on lizards of the genus Agama (Agamidae) .
