Cicada albida Olivier 1790: 755 View in CoL (Cape of Good Hope, Suriname).
Proarna olivieri Metcalf 1963a View in CoL nom. nov. pro Cicada albida Olivier, 1790 View in CoL nec Cicada albida Gmelin, 1789: 380 View in CoL .
Diagnosis. This is one of the larger Proarna species in the Lesser Antilles with with body lengths of 22.9–24.2 mm and fore wing lengths of 30.0– 33.3 mm. Proarna hilaris and Proarna invaria can be quickly separated based on their smaller body and fore wing lengths. The costal margin is strongly curved at the base and there is infuscation on the veins separating the apical cells in this species both of which are absent in Proarna squamigera .
Distribution. The species has been reported from Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, and Venezuela ( Metcalf 1963a; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2011a; 2013; 2014; 2020a; 2023a). Distant (1881a), Jacobi (1907), Cullen (1974) and Sanborn (2007a, b; 2010) reported the species from Trinidad without specific locality data with Sanborn (2020a) providing the first specific locality information for the species in the Lesser Antilles.
