Herrera nigropercula Sanborn, 2020b View in CoL
Herrera nigropercula Sanborn 2020b: 106 View in CoL View Cited Treatment (Moyabamba, vic. Ecológico “Rumipata”, 970m, S 06º 04’32.0”, W/076º 58’ 07.5”, San Martin Dept., Peru).
Diagnosis. This is the smallest of the Lesser Antilles species of Herrera (body length 12.20–13.50, fore wing length 16.3–17.7 mm) with piceous markings of the head, thorax, postclypeus, and ventral abdomen. It is the only known species of Herrera where the male operculum is marked with piceous. The luteous patches on the anterior and posterior abdomen and the basal lobe appendage shape quickly identify the specimen as a member of this species.
Distribution. The species has been reported previously from Peru and Ecuador ( Sanborn 2020b, d) with the recent addition of Trinidad ( Sanborn 2020a). It is currently known only from Trinidad in the Lesser Antilles.
Material examined. “ Trinidad; St. George Co. / 9 July 1962 / C. T. Collins // Carineta ?” one male ( FSCA) .
Species removed from or not considered part of the Lesser Antilles cicada fauna
Several species have been attributed to either the West Indies or the Antilles with no further elaboration on where the specimens were collected. Both of these classifications would include the Lesser Antilles. A number of the species described in this manner are not part of the Lesser Antilles cicada fauna and are addressed here to clarify their actual distribution.
