Material in MHNG, Lamarck collection: Lamarck’s original specimen MHNG INVE 51720 (ex MHNG 1098/ 22 ), 9.2 cm; this is probably the shell figured in (1816). Locality on the current label: Europe .

Remarks: According to Rosalie de Lamarck, her father’s collection contained three specimens.

Current taxonomic position: Colus islandicus ( Mohr, 1786) ; type species of Colus Röding, 1798 [ Buccinidae ]. Locality is northern Atlantic. Lamarck recognized the priority of Gmelin’s citation of Murex islandicus .
