Type locality: habite les mers de la Nouvelle - Hollande.

Material in MHNG; Lamarck collection: 1 specimen MHNG INVE 51724 (ex MHNG 1098/26 ), 99.5 x 45 mm ; 1 specimen MHNG INVE 51725 (ex MHNG 1098/27 ), 86 x 42 mm. Locality on both labels: Australie .

Remarks: According to Rosalie de Lamarck, her father’s collection contained two specimens. The stated size was 3 pouces 9 lignes, equivalent to 101.5 mm.

Current taxonomic position: Pugilina cochlidium ( Linnaeus, 1758) ; placed in Pugilina [ Melongenidae ] by Bayer (1952): 282
