Head shiny dark reddish brown; antennal segment I pale yellowish castaneous, remainder segments embrowned to pale castaneous; anterior lobe of pronotum pale shiny castaneous brown with collar and posterior margin shiny yellow; posterior lobe shiny reddish brown; scutellum dull dark reddish brown; hemelytron shiny throughout; clavus yellow with punctures and claval commissure pale castaneous; corium yellow with apical third pale brownish castaneous; hemelytral membrane translucent, whitish; legs yellow and tinged with pale brownish castaneous; spinules black; connexivum yellow; dorsal abdominal segments pale brownish yellow. Ventral coloration. Head shiny reddish brown; rostral segments, abdominal sterna II–III, and pleural margin of abdominal sterna II–VII shiny yellow; abdominal sterna IV–VII and genital capsule pale brownish castaneous; prothorax shiny yellow with upper margin shiny brownish castaneous; mesothorax shiny brownish castaneous; metathorax dull brownish castaneous; legs yellow tinged with pale brownish castaneous; spinules black. Pronotum wider than long; anterior lobe less than twice as long as posterior lobe. Hemelytron macropterous, extending beyond the apex of last abdominal segment; veins of hemelytral membrane without cells. Parameres. Figs. 21–22 View FIGURES 11 – 22 .

Female. Color and habitus similar to male holotype.

Variation. 1, anterior lobe of pronotum shiny yellow and laterally shiny castaneous brown. 2, prothorax shiny dark brownish castaneous with prosternum shiny dirty yellow. 3, abdominal sterna shiny dark brownish castaneous with pleural margins shiny dirty yellow.

Measurements. Female. Body length 3.12; head width across eyes 0.32; interocular distance 0.16; antennal segments: I 0.20, II 0.32, III 0.24, IV =ca. 0.44 (curled); pronotum: length of anterior pronotal lobe 0.40, length of posterior pronotal lobe 0.32,maximum width of anterior pronotal lobe 0.47, maximum width of posterior pronotal lobe 0.75; scutellum: length 0.28, width 0.38.

Biology. It can be found running on the ground.

Etymology. From the Latin “adjective “ epigaeus ”, referring to its presumable biology in forest litter.

Discussion. This species is similar to A. nigrolobus Barber in that both species have the posterior lobe of the pronotum shiny reddish brown; the clavus is shiny yellow with the punctures and the claval commissure pale castaneous; the corium is shiny yellow with the apical third shiny pale brownish castaneous; and the connexivum is shiny yellow. In A. nigrolobus the anterior lobe of the pronotum is entirely yellow; in A. epigaeus sp. nov., this structure is pale shiny castaneous brown with the collar and the posterior margin shiny yellow.

Distribution. Known only from Mexico.
