Brontostoma rubrum ( Amyot & Serville, 1843) View in CoL

Maldonado (1990) listed B. decolor ( Walker, 1873) as a valid species, although Carpintero (1980) had synonymyzed it some years before with B. rubrum . Wygodzinsky (1951) had previously considered them as separate species due to differences in coloration, but Carpintero (1980) demonstrated that those were in fact intraspecific variations. Gil­ Santana et al. (2005) studied the male genitalia of this species. B. rubrum has been recorded from Surinam, Guyana, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil ( Maldonado 1990; Dougherty 1995; Gil­Santana et al. 2005). The specimens listed below are new records from Colombia ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ) where the species, until now, has only been found in the eastern savannas.
