Phasmatocoris usingeri Wygodzinsky, 1966 View in CoL

This is a distinctive species within the genus due to its small size and long sensitive hairs ( Wygodzinsky 1966). Wygodzinsky (1966) points out the similarity of this species with P. patquianus , described from Argentina and Bolivia ( Wygodzinsky 1966). The specimens examined here do not have the anterior part of the pronotum ochraceous and the posterior castaneous as mentioned by Wygodzinsky (1966). Nevertheless, since they were collected in alcohol (pitfall or Malaise traps), some discoloration seems plausible. P. usingeri was described from Panama, with no additional records thereafter ( Wygodzinsky 1966; Maldonado 1990). This species is recorded for the first time from Colombia and, in addition, from continental South America ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 19 – 27 ). This species was found in a tropical dry forest on the Caribbean coast of Colombia.
