Type material. Holotype, female ( MNHN): “ Java occident. / Pengalengan / 4000’ 1893 / H. Fruhstorfer ” [printed label]; “ Exoc. binotatus / Pic” [blue label, handwritten by Pic]; “type” [small yellow label, handwritten by Pic]; “ HOLOTYPUS / Exochomoscirtes / binotatus / Pic, 1916 ” [red printed label].

Diagnosis. Very large orange elytral maculae are unique for this species.

Redescription. Holotype, female. Body hemispherical, TL/EW 1.2, very convex, covered with yellowish suberect setae. Dorsum blackish brown with big, oval orange maculae in anterior half of elytra, reaching base of elytra, with oblique posterior margins, suture and outer elytral margin narrowly brownish-black; ventral side, epipleura, legs, mouthparts and antennae yellowish; antennae slightly darkened apically.

Head covered with fine punctures, separated by ca. 1.0 diameter. Eyes big, moderately protuberant; head 1.7 X wider than interocular space. Antennae filiform, antennomere 1 subcylindrical, antennomere 2 subglobular, antennomere 3 elongate but narrow, antennomeres 4–11 slightly longer than antennomere 3. Palpomeres of maxillary palpi very wide.

Pronotum slightly convex, covered with fine punctation, similar to that on head, separated by ca. 1.0 diameter, anterolateral corners projecting anteriorly; lateral margins straight; posterolateral corners almost acute; base of pronotum subtrapezoidal, with complete groove along basal margin; PW/PL 3.4. Scutellum punctured as on pronotum, equilaterally triangular. Angle between pronotum and elytra not marked in dorsal outline.

Elytra broadly oval, without traces of longitudinal ridges, with slightly explanate lateral margins, widest in the middle, punctation stronger than on pronotum, distance between punctures ca. 1.0–1.5 diameter; humeri well marked; EL/EW 1.1; EL/PL 6.1; EW/PW 1.6.

Legs moderately long. Hind tibial spurs well developed, the longer spur is slightly curved, almost as long as tarsomere 1, shorter spur curved, as long as 2/3 of the length of longer spur.

Ventrites 1 and 2 with sparse setation in mesal portions, ventrite 2 with basal row of numerous big punctures. Apex of ventrite 5 emarginated.

Female genitalia. Prehensor long (L 1.10), very narrow; bursal sclerite small, plate-like (L 0.20, W 0.14).

Male unknown.

Measurements. Female (n = 1): TL 4.70, PL 0.70, PW 2.40, EL 4.25, EW 3.80.
