Range: —Greater Antilles; southern Mexico to northwestern Argentina and Brazil. In Bolivia, known from BE, CH, CO, LP, SC, and TA.
Ecology: —Fairly common; terrestrial, sometimes epiphytic, in humid forests, often in rocky places; to 3200 m.
Notes: —Very variable in blade size, size and margin configuration of the rhizome scales, and ecological habitat; possibly comprises a species complex. This species, D. flaccisquama , and D. saffordii belong to a taxonomically difficult group that needs taxonomic revision.
