Elaphoglossum laxepaleaceum Rosenst., Repert. View in CoL Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 11: 59. 1912. ( Fig. 28A–F View FIGURE 28 )
= Elaphoglossum meladenium Mickel, Fieldiana, Bot. View in CoL , n.s., 27: 145. 1991.
Range: —Central Peru to Bolivia (CO, LP).
Ecology: —Fairly common; epiphytic and terrestrial, mostly in humid Polylepis forests, but also in cloud forests with Escallonia and Weinmannia ; (2600–) 3000–4100 m.
Notes: —The blade surfaces usually have abundant orange to black glandular dots on both sides, with the scales restricted to the costae or nearly so (this form has been called E. meladenium Mickel ), but on some specimens one or both blade surfaces bear scales that leave scars resembling glandular dots when breaking off. The species limits in this group are unclear. Another similar species is the African E. conforme (Sw.) J.Sm. , which is the type species of the genus.
