= Dryopteris submarginalis (Langsd. & Fisch.) C.Chr., Index Filic. 296. 1905.
Ecology: —Common; terrestrial in humid to deciduous forests, often along streams; 300–2250 m.
Range: — U.S.A. (Florida); Hispaniola; southern Mexico to Argentina and Uruguay. In Bolivia, known from CH, CO, LP, SC, and TA.
Notes: —By far the most common and widespread Bolivian species. Geographically variable, and several varieties and forms have been described. The delimitation and status of these is unclear, and we have not applied infraspecific names to Bolivian material. Viveros et al. (2018) placed all Bolivian specimens under C. submarginalis var. submarginalis .
