This is the largest section of Elaphoglossum in Bolivia and includes some of the taxonomically most difficult species groups. The main character of this section is the acicular teeth along the scale margins (both leaf and rhizome scales). The section is further characterized by flat scales, stellate hairlike scales, and/or glandular dots on blades and/or petioles. In some species, blade scales are sparse, but then the blades are thin-textured, rather than coriaceous as in sect. Elaphoglossum . Conversely, some species from other sections have blade scales and may be misplaced in this section. They are keyed below and referred to their respective sections. The species group of E. ciliatum and subsect. Muscosa have recently been monographed ( Vasco et al. 2009 a, Vasco 2011), and we follow these treatments.
