Type material. Holotype: ♂, MACN-Ar 36117, Chile, Región de Coquimbo (IV), Ovalle, Monte Redondo, 15 km north of Mantos de Hornillos , 1.xi.1988, P. Goloboff, E. Maury and C. Szumik leg. Paratype: 1 ♀, MACN-Ar 36131, same collection data .

Etymology. The specific epithet is a noun taken in apposition from the band’s name Megadeth, a U.S. heavy metal band lead by guitarist Dave Mustaine.
Diagnosis. Males of Goloboffia megadeth sp. nov differ from G. vellardi in having a thinner and longer em- bolus with a wavy tip ( Figs 33–36 View FIGURES 33–36 ); females differ from the other known species by the shape of the spermathecae with large and rounded lobes and very short ducts of the same length as spermathecal head width ( Fig. 47 View FIGURES 43–47 ).
Description. Holotype male, MACN-Ar 36117. Coloration (in alcohol): Carapace and chelicerae reddish brown, legs brown, abdomen brownish ( Figs 23–27 View FIGURES 23–28 ). Total length 8.18; carapace 2.55 long, 2.53 wide. Fovea deep, straight with recurved ends, 0.51 wide. Ocular group 1.28 wide, occupying 0.51 of cephalic width ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 23–28 ). Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.13, PME 0.12, ALE 0.33, PLE 0.13, AME–AME 0.12, AME–ALE 0.24, PLE–PME 0.10, PME–PME 0.52. Labium 0.49 long, 0.55 wide, without cuspules. Labium separated from sternum by shallow groove. Maxillae without cuspules ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 23–28 ). Fangs keeled and chelicerae with subequal teeth, 3 promarginal and 3 retromarginal, and 9 denticles between margins. Sternum elongated 1.79 long, 1.47 wide. Posterior sigillae deep, airfoil shaped ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 23–28 ). Leg formula 1423. Segment lengths (femur, patella, tibia, metatarsus, tarsus, total): I: 2.97, 1.32, 2.16, 1.92, 0.78, 9.15. Female (MACN-Ar 36131), coloration (in alcohol): Carapace, legs and chelicerae brown, abdomen light gray ( Figs. 37–41 View FIGURES 37–42 ). Total length 9.35; carapace 3.77 long, 3.22 wide. Fovea deep, straight with recurved ends, 0.51 wide. Ocular group 1.62 wide, occupying 0.61 of cephalic width ( Fig. 42 View FIGURES 37–42 ). Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.12, PME 0.15, ALE 0.40, PLE 0.14, AME–AME 0.16, AME–ALE 0.36, PLE–PME 0.09, PME–PME 0.63. Labium 0.62 long, 0.52 wide, with 8 cuspules. Labium separated from sternum by shallow groove. Maxillae with 7/9 (right/left) cuspules ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 43–47 ). Fangs keeled and chelicerae with subequal teeth, 4 promarginal and 4 retromarginal, and 11 denticles between margins. Sternum elongated, 1.79 long, 1.65 wide. Posterior sigillae deep, large and airfoil shaped, shallow ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 37–42 ). Leg formula 4123, tibiae and metatarsi I and II flattened, with very long spines ( Figs. 44–45 View FIGURES 43–47 ). Spermathecae with rounded lobes pointed outwards and very short ducts (same length as spermathecal head width), constriction between ducts and lobes well developed ( Fig. 47 View FIGURES 43–47 ).
