Cagayanacoris new genus

Type species: Cagayanacoris menardi sp.nov.

Etymology. This genus is named after he Philippine Province of Cagayan in Northern Luzon where it was found and>coris<(Greek) bug.

Diagnosis. Micropterous, small sized, body elongate oval and flat, coloration reddish brown, legs antennae and median elevation of tergal plate yellowish; surface of thorax and abdomen deeply punctured, legs, lateral margins of body and antennal segment I+II beset with erect, apically curved hairs; pronotum with anterolateral angulate expansions; eyes stalked; base of rostrum ventrally with a pair of knob-like shiny tubercles of unknown function; spiracles II-V ventral, VI sublateral and visible from above, VII lateral.

Description. Head: Wider than long; clypeus about as long as antenniferous lobes; antennae distinctly longer than width of head, segment II shortest, III longest; rostrum arising from a slit-like atrium, anterolaterally with a shiny knob-like tubercle on each side.

Pronotum: Trapezoidal, strongly transverse with angular anterolateral expansions, disk with two conical tubercles; posterior margin carinate; mesonotum consisting of a distinct triangular scutellum and lateral wing pads, metanotum of two ovate plates lateral of scutellum, posteriorly fused to mtg I+II.

Abdomen: Pentagonal tergal plate of fused mtg III–VI separated anteriorly from fused mtg I+II by straight inclined sutures meeting at apex of scutellum, median longitudinal elevation moderately developed; deltg II+III fused to a triangular sclerite reaching wing-pads, deltg III–VII separated by sutures.

Venter: Metathoracic scent gland opening elongate oval extending to lateral margin of mesonotum; spiracles II–V ventral, VI sublateral and VII lateral, both visible from above; sternite VII of male glabrous and smooth at middle with a round pit.

Legs: Unarmed, trochanters fused to femora but fusion suture distinct.

Comparative notes and discussion. The combination of characters e.g. habitus, stalked eyes, shiny tubercles at base of rostrum in both sexes (Figs. 3,4), structure of pronotum and scutellum and position of spiracles differs from all micropteropus or brachypterous Mezirinae described to date from the Eastern Oriental and Indoaustralian Regions ( Parapictinus Kormilev, 1956 from India; Apaniocoris Kormilev, 1983 from Sulawesi; Smetanacoris Heiss, 1989 from Sabah; Pahangiessa Heiss, 1993 from Malaysia; Hutanicoris Heiss, 1993 from Malaysia and Sumatra; Schuhaptera Heiss, 2010b from Malaysia; Stipesoculus Bai , et al. 2007 from China; Sikkimocoris Heiss, 2010a from Sikkim; Hainanmezira Bai. et al. 2011 from China).

Cagayanacoris gen.nov. shares however the curious polished structure of the male sternite VII ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1–5 ) with the apterous Cremastaptera Usinger & Matsuda 1959 from Java and Sumatra, but the latter differs by eyes not stalked, missing scutellum and wing pads and the presence of a pit in front of hind coxae.
