Synonyms: Euglena limnophila var. minor R. Dreżepolski [Kosmos (Lwów) 50: 245, 268, fig. 162. 1925] non Euglena limnophila var. minor H. Kufferath [Bull. Soc. Roy. Bot. Belgique 74: 100, fig. 4. 1942]
After Wołowski (2011), this variety is in its dimensions smaller than the typical variety (width 7,5–12 μm, length 24–40–48 μm) as well as in the length to width ratio (width 7,5–12–13,6 μm, length 40–90 μm).
Additionally, morphological description of Phacus ulula suggests its affiliation to the Monomorphina genus renewed by Marin et al. (2003). New combination was made:
