The genus is distributed throughout the Afrotropical, Australian and Oriental Regions ( Lorenz 2021), but as yet there has been no global revision of the genus. However, the Australian and Oriental assemblages were revised by Baehr (2004a, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2013) resulting in five subgenera, including the nominal one within the genus ( Amplitarus Baehr, 2009 , Anomotarus , Dromiotes Jeannel, 1949, Lithostrotus Blackburn, 1894 , Nototaurus Chaudoir, 1875 and Rubritarus Baehr, 2009 ) ( Lorenz 2021). Prior to this study the genus was not recorded from Guinea ‒ Bissau yet, but now there is one new record for this country within the Dromiotes subgenus.
