Cis glabratus Mellié, 1849

Cis glabratus Mellié, 1849: 329 (original description).

Cis bituberculatus Roubal, 1912: 25 (original description), syn. nov.

Cis bituberculosus Roubal, 1937: 39 (replacement name for Cis bituberculatus Roubal, 1912 , a junior primary homonym of Cis bituberculatus Gorham, 1886 ), syn. nov.

Type localities. Cis glabratus : “Grande-Chartreuse”; Cis bituberculatus : “Krásnaja Poljana”.

Types examined. Cis bituberculatus : Lectotype (designated here): ♁ ( Figs 1–4 View FIGURES 1–4 ), “ Caucasus occ. / КраснаЯ ПоЛЯна [= Krasnaya Polyana] / Roubal VII 1910 [b, p] // typus m. / Roubal det. [w, h] // bituberculatus / m. [h] / Roubal det. [w, p] // [small blank pale brown quadrangular label]” ( SNM) . Paralectotype: ♁, “ Caucasus occ. / КраснаЯ ПоЛЯна [= Krasnaya Polyana] / Roubal VII 1910 [b, p] // typus m. [w, h] // bitubercu- / latus [h] / Roubal det. [w, p] // [small blank pale brown quadrangular label]” ( SNM) .

Distribution. Most European countries ( Królik 2020).

Bondartsev & Singer , Ganoderma applanatum (Pers.) Pat. , G. carnosum Pat. , Heterobasidion annosum (Fr.) Bref. , Inonotus cuticularis (Bull.) P. Karst. , Ischnoderma benzoinum (Wahlenb.) P. Karst. , Oxyporus latemarginatus (Durieu & Mont.) Donk , Phellinus hartigii (Allesch. & Schnabl) Pat. , P. igniarius (L.) Quél., P. robustus (P. Karst.) Bourdot & Galzin , Piptoporus betulinus (Bull.) P. Karst. , Porodaedalea pini (Brot.) Murrill , Pycnoporellus fulgens (Fr.) Donk , Trametes gibbosa (Pers.) Fr. , T. versicolor (L.) Lloyd ( Reibnitz 1999, Rose 2012, Rose & Zagatti 2016).

Comments. Cis bituberculatus was described based on two males and one female ( Roubal 1912). Two male syntypes are deposited in SNM; the deposition of the third syntype is unknown to me. It is clear that both syntypes, characterised by a finely pubescent pronotum and a pair of small tubercles on the anterior pronotal margin, are conspecific with Cis glabratus . In the original description, Roubal (1912) treated the specimen with smaller pronotal tubercles as female, what is likely a mistake. The females of Cis glabratus have anterior margin of pronotum regularly rounded without the tubercles. The specimen formerly considered to be a female is, in fact, a less developed male. One of the syntypes deposited in SNM ( Figs 1–4 View FIGURES 1–4 ) is designated here as lectotype.

Roubal (1912) compared Cis bituberculatus only with C. jacquemartii Mellié, 1849 and C. nitidus (Fabricius, 1792) (now C. castaneus Herbst, 1793 ), while C. glabratus was not mentioned. A probable explanation is that the identity and position of C. glabratus were not precisely known at that time. Cis glabratus was usually listed as a synonym or variety of C. jacquemartii , and the characteristic structures, such as fine setae on the pronotal surface and small tubercles on the anterior pronotal margin in males, were not mentioned in the widely used literature (e.g. Schilsky 1900; Reitter 1901, 1911).

Roubal (1937) discovered the primary homonymy of his species with C. bituberculatus Gorham, 1886 from Mexico, and proposed the new replacement name C. bituberculosus Roubal, 1937 . Based on the examination of syntypes of C. bituberculatus , I propose the following new synonymy: Cis glabratus Mellié, 1849 = Cis bituberculatus Roubal, 1912 , syn. nov. = Cis bituberculosus Roubal, 1937 , syn. nov.
