Cis vestitus Mellié, 1849

Cis vestitus Mellié, 1849: 354 (original description).

Cis incanus Rey, 1892: 17 (original description), syn. nov.

Type localities. Cis vestitus : “Saint-Germain”; Cis incanus : “Lyon”.

Types examined. Cis incanus : Lectotype (designated here) and 1 paralectotype, without labels ( Figs 16–19 View FIGURES 12–19 ), box labels: “incanus / R. [w, h] // vestitus / var? [w, h]” ( CCECL).

Distribution. Most European countries ( Królik 2020).

Host fungi. Peniophora quercina (Pers.) Cooke , P. rufomarginata (Pers.) Bourdot & Galzin , Stereum hirsutum (Willd.) Pers. , and S. gausapatum (Fr.) Fr. ( Reibnitz 1999, Rose 2012, Rose & Zagatti 2016).

Comments. Rey (1892) described Cis incanus based on two specimens from Lyon. The curator of the Coleoptera collection at CCECL, where the Claudius Rey collection is deposited, inspected this collection and found three specimens under the box label name Cis incanus ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 12–19 ). The first two specimens are without labels; the third, much paler (probably teneral), is provided with the small label “?”. As I was informed by the curator, Claudius Rey did not place any locality labels under the specimens collected in Lyon. From the above information, it is clear that the first two specimens are syntypes of C. incanus . The third, paler specimen, was not mentioned in the original description and cannot be considered a type specimen.

Based on the photographs taken by the curator, the type specimens of C. incanus are conspecific with C. vestitus . Consequently, I propose the following new synonymy: Cis vestitus Mellié, 1849 = Cis incanus Rey, 1892 , syn. nov. One of the specimens ( Figs 16–18 View FIGURES 12–19 ) is designated here as lectotype.
