Distribution – The species is widely distributed from the whole range of theHimalayatosouthernChinaandVietnamtothePhilippines, theGreater SundaIslandsandNewGuinea (seealsobelow).
Remarks – The holotype of Oxytelopsis cassagnaui Coiffait, 1982 is lost (similarly to that of O. franzi described in the same article). While most of the synonymsofthisnameseemtorepresentformswellwithinthe (great) range ofvariationknownforthisspecies, someremarksmustbemadeasregards ‘ brevipennis Bernhauer’. Apartfromdifferentbodyproportions, examination ofmalegenitaliaandterminaliaonlyrevealedafewsubtledifferencesfrom themainlandSEAsianforms; thesedeviationsaretoosmalltoallowforsafe recognitionofadistincttaxon, soitisherekeptwithin A. pseudopsinus . This formwithsmallerelytraandcomparativelysmallereyesandlongertemples existsmostlyeastofWallace’sLine. Thereisstillagreatrangeofvariation existingwithinthosesoutheasternpopulations, withratherdifferentexternal appearanceswithgenitaliaquiteuniform. Toconfusemattersevenmore, a similar population with smaller elytra exists on the island of Ceylon (Sri Lan- ka). Thedescriptionandgenitaliaillustrationsprovidedherearebasedonthe mainlandSEAsianform (cf. thetypeof‘ pseudopsinus ’), butthehabituspho- tographisofaspecimenwithsmallerelytra (cf. thetypeof‘ brevipennis ’). The name‘ brevipennis ’ isayoungersecondaryhomonymandmustbereplacedif usedasvalid.
