Synonymy (see Hajdu & van Soest 2002).

Definition. Desmacellidae with tylostyles, occasionally styles, with reticulate, plumo-reticulate and vaguely halichondrioid choanosomal skeleton, microscleres sigmas, and raphides; the latter may be absent (Hajdu & van Soest 2002).
