Type: CHINA: Stone pond, Aer Mountain in Great Xing’an Mountains, attached to filamentous algae (Slide 043107, Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai, China, holotype)

LM ( Figs 79–93 View FIGURES 79–93 ): Large valves linear, tapering to cuneate apices; smaller valves linear-lanceolate with slightly protracted, rostrate apices. Valve dimensions (n=10): length 15.5 – 55.5 μm, width 5.5 – 7.0 (8.0). Most transapical ribs primary, perpendicular or at an angle to sternum, 3 – 5 in 10 μm. Sternum diffuse, narrow, striae between ribs parallel or at an angle to sternum.

Ecology and distribution: — Odontidium rupestris was found in three streams across the Himalaya in Nepal. It was very rare in a stream in the Jumla district of western Nepal, an alpine stream situated at 3350 m a.s.l. (NMW. C.2007.006.S5). In the Helambu area it was found in a fast flowing stream situated at 4381 m a.s.l., 3.5 m wide, with cobble and pebble substratum (NMW.C.2007.006.He07). In eastern Nepal, in the Gokyo Valley of the Everest National Park, it occurred in a small alpine stream flowing into the lake Dudh Pokhari at its western shore (NMW. C.2009.003.51, G3 inlet north face sand).
