( Figures 7–11 View FIGURES 7 – 11 )

Diagnosis. Head directed ventrally. Humeral angles auriculate, strongly extended laterally; pronotum in dorsal view gibbous, with six prominent swellings; second valvulae blade-shaped with ten teeth on dorsal surface.

Description. Holotype female. Head yellow. Pronotum yellow with spotted greenish areas on humeral angles and pronotal swellings, and lighter bands around the greenish latero-posterior areas. Ventral aspect of head, thorax and abdomen yellow, legs castaneous.

Head. Head triangular; perpendicular to body axis in lateral view, vertex punctured; in anterior view, region between ocelli and eyes foveolate, anterior margin of vertex arcuate; eyes ovate, ocelli located closer to each other than to eyes; frontoclypeus ovoid in frontal view, truncate at apex. Pronotum. Punctate; in dorsal view, metopidium convex, medial carina percurrent, elevated from pronotal base to apex, raised above swellings; humeral angles earlike, strongly projected laterally and acuminate; six prominent lobe-like swellings: two anterior small swellings, parallel to humeral angles, separated from each other by median carina; one medial swelling above metathoracic legs, followed by one mid-posterior swelling, slightly compressed lateromesally; two latero-posterior swellings, prominent, rounded, not extended laterally beyond humeral angles; pronotum tapering distally to acute apex. In lateral view, pronotum sinuous, anterior swellings lower than mid-dorsal swelling, strongly elevated, abruptly descending toward tip of pronotum. Legs. Pro- and mesothoracic legs with two ventral longitudinal rows of cucullate setae on femora and tibiae, tibae subfoliaceus; metathoracic femur without cucullate setae; tibia with rows I and III of cucullate setae present. Forewing. Hyaline, punctate in proximal half and 1/3 of costal margin; one r-m, two m-cu, crossvein s present, two discoidal and five apical cells. Genitalia. Second valvulae blade-shaped with ten teeth on dorsal surface.

Male. Unknown.

Measurements (mm): length: 8.8; head width: 2.9; head length: 2.0; pronotum length: 8.6; width between humeral angles: 7.3.

Material Examined. HOLOTYPE female, “ PERU │ Santa Isabella │ 9-Jul-1968 │ D. B. Ekkens │ 351” ( USNM). Specimen pinned through the pronotum.

Distribution. Peru: Santa Isabella.

Etymology. This species is named to honor of Dr. Albino M. Sakakibara for his numerous contributions to our knowledge of Neotropical Membracidae .

Comments. This species differs from other Hypheodana in its prominent pronotal swellings, which are larger than any other species in the tribe However, other characters such as a perpendicular and triangular head, a vertical metopidium, and an ovoid frontoclypeus support its placement in the genus Hypheodana . This is the first record of the genus in Peru.
