Dombrow (2002) established Toxocnemis Dombrow (2002: 105) for Toxocnemis cochranei Dombrow, 2002 (type species by original designation) ( Scarabaeidae : Hopliinae: Hopliini). No additional species have been described. Note that the species was named after a woman and should have had an -ae ending (Article 31.1.2), however, the original spelling must be maintained (Article 31.1.2).
However, the genus Toxocnemis was established by Macquart (1855: 123, type species Toxocnemis vittata Macquart, 1855 , by monotypy) for a tachinid fly from Adelaide, Australia. No additional species have been described.
To resolve the homonymy, in accordance with Article 60 of the Code, we propose Dombrocnemis Allsopp & Schoolmeesters , replacement name as the replacement name for Toxocnemis Dombrow nec Macquart. This results in a new combination for the species currently included in this genus (see below).
