Phthinia Winnertz 1863: 779 View in CoL . Type-species, P. humilis Winnertz ( Johannsen 1909: 83) View in CoL . Ref.— Oliveira & Amorim 2010b: 32 View Cited Treatment (key for the Neotropical species, new species).
P. fasciata Freeman 1951: 54 View in CoL , fig. 109 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Chile, Llanquihue , Peulla. Holotype ♂, NHM. ( Figure 43 View FIGURES 31–43 )
Notes. The type series included only the male holotype. The holotype labels are: “Peulla / 12–13.xi.1926.” // “ Phthinia View in CoL / fasciata View in CoL [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia on a microslide attached to an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “ Argentina: / Terr. Río Negro. / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 257881”. The holotype is in very good condition .
P. flagellata Freeman 1951: 53 View in CoL , figs. 107 (♂ terminalia), 276 (wing). Type-locality: Argentina, Río Negro, Lago Nahuel Huaí , eastern end. Holotype ♂, NHM.
( Figure 44 View FIGURES 44–52 )
Notes. The type series included the male holotype, three male and two female paratypes, of which one male and one female paratype, and a paratype missing the distal part of the abdomen are at the NHM . The holotype labels are: “ Phthinia / flagellata [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia on a microslide attached to an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Lago Nahuel Huaí. / Eastern End. / 17.xi.1926.” // “ Argentina: / Terr. Río Negro. / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 257875”. The paratypes are numbered ( BMNH (E) # 257876-8) .
P. furcata Freeman 1951: 54 View in CoL , fig. 108 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Chile, Llanquihue , Ancud. Holotype ♂, NHM. ( Figure 45 View FIGURES 44–52 )
Notes. The type series included the male holotype and one male paratype ( BMNH (E) # 257880), both of which are at the NHM. The holotype labels are: “ Phthinia View in CoL / furcata View in CoL [hw] / Freeman. / HOLOTYPE ” [printed on red label]” // [male terminalia on a microslide attached to an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “Ancud. / 17–19.xii.1926.” // “S. Chile: / Llanquigue prov. / F. & M. Edwards / B.M. 1927–63.” // “BMNH(E) # / 257879”. The holotype is not in good condition, the entire abdomen having been removed from the thorax, but not mounted with the terminalia in the acetate sheet. The paratype has part of the abdomen and one of the wings glued to the acetate triangle, together with the rest of the specimen .
