Notes. Subías (2022) considered this species as congeneric with Hoploderma italica Oudemans, 1900 , Phthiracarus membranifer Parry, 1979 , Phthiracarus sellnicki Feider et Suciu, 1957 , and Hoplophora testudinea C.L. Koch, 1841 . The synonymy of H. italica and H. testudinea can not be established due to the incompleteness of the descriptions.
P. membranifer has reduced chaetome of legs, setae v´ of femora I and setae l´ of genua IV absent (versus chaetome complete in P. ferrugineus ) ( Niedbała 2011b).
It is not excluded that P. sellnicki is a synonym of P. ferrugineus . However, median crista of prodorsum is present in P. sellnicki but absent in P. ferrugineus .
