Thrips nigropilosus Uzel View in CoL
( Figs. 149–154 View FIGURES 143–154 )
This species is almost cosmopolitan and is found throughout Japan. It is polyphagous but especially breeds on Asteraceae . It is similar to T. tabaci and T. urticae in the following character states: body generally yellowish brown or brownish yellow with brown markings, 7-segmented antenna ( Fig. 150 View FIGURES 143–154 ), metascutum ( Fig. 151 View FIGURES 143–154 ) with reticulation medially and abdominal tergite VIII with complete posteromarginal comb in female, tergite IX with a pair of CPS, sternites and pleurotergites without discal setae. However, it can be distinguished easily from the other members of this genus by a combination of the following character states: compound eyes with five pigmented ommatidia ventrally ( Fig. 149 View FIGURES 143–154 ), female often (male always) micropterous, fore wing uniformly pale but usually with small weak shaded area subbasally when macropterous, and abdominal tergites with sculpture lines medially and S1 setae longer ( Figs. 152, 153 View FIGURES 143–154 ).
