Thrips orientalis (Bagnall) View in CoL

( Figs. 171–178 View FIGURES 166–178 )

Isoneurothrips orientalis Bagnall, 1915: 593 View in CoL .

Female macroptera. Body uniformly dark brown, antecostal ridge dark; antennal segment III brownish yellow; fore wings including clavus almost uniformly brown. Head ( Fig. 171 View FIGURES 166–178 ) weakly rounded at cheeks, weakly sculptured within ocellar triangle. Ocellar setae III on margin of ocellar triangle. Postocular setae I and III much shorter than ocellar setae III, II and IV minute. Antennae ( Fig. 172 View FIGURES 166–178 ) 7-segmented. Pronotum ( Fig. 175 View FIGURES 166–178 ) distinctly sculptured with transverse striae, with about 30 discal setae; posteroangular setae 2 pairs, setae I shorter than setae II; posteromarginal setae 2 or 3 pairs. Metascutum ( Fig. 173 View FIGURES 166–178 ) with equiangular reticulations bearing small inner wrinkles; median pair of setae far from anterior margin; CPS absent. Fore wing first vein without long gap in setal row, 7–11 setae at distal half; clavus with subapical setae longer than apical setae. Abdominal tergites II to VIII ( Fig. 174, 175 View FIGURES 166–178 ) with lines of sculpture almost not extending to mesad of S2 setae; tergites II to VII with S1 setae minute; tergite II with four lateral marginal setae, fourth setae often displaced onto pleurotergite; tergite VIII without posteromarginal comb medially, small microtrichia present only laterally; tergite IX with 2 pairs of CPS; sternite I with two minute microsetae anteromedially; sternites II with 0–2 discal setae; sternites III to VI ( Fig. 176 View FIGURES 166–178 ) usually with two to seven discal setae; sternite VII with no discal setae and S1 setae far from posterior margin; pleurotergites without discal setae and ciliate microtrichia.

Male macroptera. Body colour similar to female. Antennal segment VI with slightly more setae on dorsal surface than in female. Abdominal tergite IX ( Fig. 177 View FIGURES 166–178 ) with S1 setae at level of S2 setae and longer than S2 setae, closer to S2 setae than each other; sternites without discal setae; sternites III to VII ( Fig. 178 View FIGURES 166–178 ) each with a large transverse pore plate; sternite IX with posteroangular setae stout.

Specimens examined. JAPAN, Ryukyus, Ishigaki-jima Is., 7 females & 33 males ( TUA) .
