Records of Diaptomidae

Table 1 shows the complete set of the 69 faunistic records included herein and the sites where the calanoid copepod fauna of continental South Africa was surveyed. Comments on the records of some species are as follows.

Metadiaptomus purcelli (Sars, 1907) . Most records of this species are by Sars (1907), in Bergvliet , Cape Town and Cape Flats. Several new localities can be added to the distribution of this species. Metadiaptomus capensis (Sars, 1907) was previously known from only a few localities: Green Point Common (Sars, 1907) and Namaqualand, Sirkelsvlei ( Rayner, 1999 b). Its distribution now includes many more localities in the area of Cape Town and the westernmost part of the Cape Province .

Paradiaptomus hameri Rayner, 1999 . Previously known from two localities: Rooipan, near Yzerfontein (33 ‡ 20 ’ S, 18 ‡ 10 ’ E), Veldrift-Piketberg road (32 ‡ 50 ’ S, 18 ‡ 30 ’ E). New localities: La Rochelle (A8), Verlorenvlei (A9) (see table 1; figure 6).

Paradiaptomus lamellatus (Sars, 1895) . Previously known from different sites of the Western and Eastern Cape Provinces ( Rayner, 1999 b). New localities: Ronderug, Blinkvlei, Sandvlei, Palmietfontein Exten, Zuurblakte, Groot Rondevlei (see table 1; figure 6). These data confirm its wide distribution in this area.
