Elwendia ugamica Kljuykov & Lyskov View in CoL sp. nov. ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 , 3b View FIGURE 3 , 4b View FIGURE 4 , Table 1)
The new species differs from E. capusii in shorter terminal leaf lobes (3–4 mm vs. 10–40 mm), terminal umbels of lateral branches (reaching the level of central umbel vs. no more developed than central umbel), bracteoles (2–3 herbaceous sheets vs. (3) 5–8 sheets with membranous margins), shape of stylopods (low conical vs. conical), and shape of styles (recurved vs. erect and parallel).
Type:— UZBEKISTAN. Western Tian-Shan, southern side of Ugom Range, upper course of Alixoja river, 17 June 1962, Adylov 1882 (holotype TASH).
Polycarpic herbaceous plants with tuberous root, all glabrous. Stems 15–25 cm tall and about 1 mm ⌀ at base, solid, rounded, slightly angular at nodes, with branches growing from middle stem part. Basal leaves unknown; steam leaves 2–4, lower stem leaf petioles up to 1 cm long, with narrow sheaths at base; leaf blades 8–10 mm long, 7 mm wide, obovate, pinnate; primary segments of leaves with petiolules; terminal lobes deeply divided into 2–3 linear-lanceolate short segments; upper stem leaves with lanceolate or linear-lanceolate sheaths 5–10 mm long, pinnate, terminal lobes short and linear. Umbels up to 7 cm ⌀, with 3–5 thin spreaded rays up to 3.5 cm long, bracts wanting or 1–3 narrowly linear. Central umbel located at same level as terminal umbels of lateral branches. Umbellets with up to 10 flowers, pedicels equal, terete, 4–6 mm long; 2–3 bracteoles narrowly linear, entire; calyx teeth obscure, petals white. Fruits cylindrical ( Fig. 3b View FIGURE 3 , 4b View FIGURE 4 ), 5–6 × 0.8–1 mm; mericarps homomorphic, terete, elliptic, semilunar; only primary ribs present; all ribs equal, filiform, straight, with entire margins; stylopods low conical, styles 1–1.3 mm long, recurved; commissure broad; vascular bundles thin, situated in ribs; secretory ducts single between ribs; two secretory ducts on commissural side; endosperm flat at commissural side.
Etymology: —The specific epithet refers to the mountain range in which the plant was collected.
Phenology: —Flowering probably in May or June; fruiting in June.
Distribution: —The species is known only from the locus classicus ( Fig. 5a View FIGURE 5 ).
Note: —Although the new species is certainly described from the Ugom Range, its precise locality is not known. During this study we have not found the river named “Alixoja” on the maps and in other sources. It is highly probably that the collector used a local name. We hope to find this locality in further studies.
