Genus Hypsotropa Zeller, 1848 View in CoL
type species: Hypsotropa limbella Zeller, 1848 , by monotypy.
= Tiarra Ragonot, 1888 View in CoL .
type species: Tiarra pusillella Ragonot, 1888 , by monotypy.
Diagnosis. Hypsotropa is characterized by a basally nearly parallel-sided valva with a much narrower distal half. A distinct spike-like process from ventral base of valva and short triangular process in the distal portion of valva characterize the unipunctella -group. In the female genitalia, the emargination on the posterior margin of sternum VIII is shallow, the colliculum is usually distinct and the corpus bursae is large, without a signum. Externally Hypsotropa species are rather broad-winged Anerastiini which can be confused with some Ematheudes species, but the labial palpus are obliquely upturned far beyond the vertex of the head ( Hampson 1918: 67) ( Figs 3 View FIGURES 1–6 , 7a View FIGURES 7–10 ) whereas those of Ematheudes are downcurved ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 11–14 ).
Distribution. The great majority of species (21) is recorded from the Afrotropical region ( Hampson 1918; De Prins & De Prins 2019). The Palaearctic species are most diverse in the Mediterranean area ( Leraut 2014; Gastón et al. 2016). Several species are known from Oriental, Australian and Neotropical regions ( Nuss et al. 2003 –2019). One species is reported from Ukraine.
