Diagnosis. Coenochroa is characterized by the subrectangular lobes of uncus, the comparatively short and broad valva and aedeagus usually with one long cornutus in the vesica; Acritonia Amsel, 1954 differs in the longer and narrower valva, and aedeagus without cornuti in vesica. A narrow ductus bursae with a very indistinct transition to the slender corpus bursae is characteristic for the female genitalia. Chortonoeca Hampson, 1918 differs in the longer ductus bursae and weakly modified segment VIII. Externally Coenochroa species can be recognized by the head with distinct frontal process and usually uniformly light brown forewing with dark spot in the cell corner.

Distribution. About 10 species were reported from all regions except for Australia ( Nuss et al. 2003 –2019). One species is known from the Palaearctic region inclusive Ukraine.
