Pronotum sparsely but coarsely punctate, punctures denser along anterior and posterior margins; metallic green pattern wide, anterior margin more or less yellowish, lateral margins with broad yellow edging. Median line almost obsolete or reduced. Prosternum coarsely and irregularly punctate.

Elytra (EL: 3.18–3.49 mm, EW: 3.35–4.0 mm) moderately convex, ovate, sides hardly widened behind humerus. Elytra with 15 striae, extended from base to apex. Striae deep, punctate, with punctures distinct, well separated, shallower toward apex. Intervals moderately convex and smooth, more convex and narrower laterally.

Venter ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 35–38 ). Mesepisternum smooth. Metasternum coarsely and irregularly punctate. Ventrite I punctate along anterior margin; ventrite II with few punctures near coxa and near elytral epipleura; ventrites III–VI smooth. Metacoxae bisetose, without additional punctures.

Aedeagus ( Figs. 39–41 View FIGURES 39–45 ). Apical lamella slightly downturned, apex relatively wide in comparison with other subspecies. Endophallus is typical for the species: with two groups of medium sized spines. One group is large and situated in distal part tubular formation, extended to basal orifice of median lobe, and covered with scales. The second group of spines is much smaller, located more apically and to the right (anatomically) of the first and extended apically beyond the first group by about half its length ( Fig. 46 View FIGURES 46–51 ).

Comments. Omophron dominicense was described by Chaudoir, 1868: 58 based on a single specimen received from A. Deyrolle with label “S Domingo” [label error]. The type specimen was studied by S.W. Nichols in 1983 and synonymy with O. capensis was established, but not published. This synonymy is confirmed here.

The population living on the coast, in the Cape Town area, is distinguished by a slightly larger body size and a reduced green pattern on the elytra ( Fig. 27–28 View FIGURES 27–34 ), and was described by Guérin-Méneville (1842: 24) as Omophron suturale . No differences were found in the structure of the aedeagus. The previously proposed by S.W. Nichols, but unpublished synonymy is confirmed.

Distribution. Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Republic of South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe (Map. 3).
