Trichophysetis cataracta sp. n.
Imago (fig. 25): Wingspan 13–14 mm. Head dark fuscous, labial palpus upturned, sement 3 narrow and pointed compared with segment 2; antenna about half length of wing. Thorax and tegulae dark fuscous. Forewing ground colour dark fuscous, outer half of costa orange, interrupted by a dark fuscous spot at ⅚, a whitish subterminal line of variable width; terminal fringe whitish below apex and above tornus. Hindwing dark fuscous with two whitish fascias further separated from each other towards costa, in between them black, terminal fringe black interrupted by white below apex and above tornus.
Male genitalia (fig. 66) Uncus digitate, broader in middle, tapered to apex, clothed in setae; valva ovate, a strong curved spine on dorsal edge, sacculus broad with a sclerotised plate near edge and a long spine pointing back towards the base. Aedeagus with a large cluster of more than eight cornuti.
Female genitalia: Not examined.
Diagnosis: Distinguished from other species in the genus by the dark fuscous colouring.
Life history: Not known.
Derivation: from the Greek for a waterfall, the type locality is near a waterfall.
Distribution: Known only from the southern slopes of Mt Kenya.
Type material: Holotype ♂ KENYA: Central , Castle Forest Lodge, 2050m, 0° 22’ 51” S 37° 18’ 35” E 27.x.2013 Agassiz, Beaven, Heckford & Larsen. 5 paratypes ♂ Same locality as holotype, 27.x.2016 (2) D.
