Figs 8 View FIGURE 8 A, B
Material studied. Holotype male. NORWAY, Spitzbergen, southern cost of Königsfjord, west of Ny Ölesund, yellow pan trap, 6.II–15.VII.1974, Stephan (no. 3298 in PWMP).
Description. Male. Head. Brown, antenna concolorous brown, maxillary palpus very pale brown. Eye bridge 2 facets wide. Face with 5 scattered pale longer and shorter setae. Clypeus with 3 pale setae. Maxillary palpus with 3 palpomeres; palpomere 1 longer than 3, palpomere 2 shortest; palpomere 1 with 1 long sharp seta, with a dorsal pit of sensilla; palpomere 2 with 1 long sharp seta and 7 shorter truncate setae, palpomere 3 with 8 short truncate setae. Body of antennal flagellomere 4 2.95x as long as wide, the neck shorter than broad, the longest setae shorter than the width of flagellomere. Thorax. Brown, setae pale. Anterior pronotum with 4 setae. Episternum 1 with 9 setae. Wing. Length 1.6 mm. Width/length 0.40. R1/R 0.65. c/ w 0.50. r-m longer than bM, r-m/bM 1.5, r-m with 3 dorsal setae, bM non-setose. Halter pale brown. Legs. Pale yellowish brown. Coxal setae pale. Front tibial organ in depression with vestiture in patch. Front tibial spur slightly longer than the tibial width. Abdomen. Pale brown, setae pale. Hypopygium, Figs 8 View FIGURE 8 A, B. Brown, concolorous with abdomen. Gonocoxa longer than gonostylus. Gonostylus rather tumid, with the mesial side strongly impressed at the apical third; with short setosity, apicomesially with a few elongated setae; with a short apical tooth, with 3 apical megasetae, with 2 mesial megasetae at the apical third, the mesial megasetae slightly larger than the apical ones, all almost straight; with a short flagellate seta near the basalmost mesial megaseta. Tegmen as long as broad, with roundish lateral sides, with strong lateral sclerotizations.
Discussion. Camptochaeta truncata can be distinguished from other congeneric species in having a rather tumid gonostylus with a broad apex and a short apical tooth and short but stout mesial megasetae on the apical third of the gonostylus.
Etymology. The name is derived from Latin, truncus, cut off, referring to the abruptly ending apex of the gonostylus.
