Figs 48–51 View FIGURES 48–55 , 60–63 View FIGURES 60–67 .
Holcopelte missouriensis Ashmead, 1888:101 View in CoL . Lectotype female in USNM, designated by Burks (1971), examined.
Holcopelte popenoei Ashmead, 1888:101 View in CoL . Lectotype female in USNM, designated by Burks (1971), examined. Synonymized by Girault (1934).
Horismenus missouriensis (Ashmead) View in CoL , Schmiedeknecht (1909).
Diagnosis. Antennal scrobes joining below frontal suture (as in Figs 56, 57 View FIGURES 56–59 ); first gastral tergite with posterior 2/3 reticulate with isodiametric meshes and with punctures, or predominantly with punctures; female flagellomeres short and stout ( Figs 50 View FIGURES 48–55 , 62 View FIGURES 60–67 ), e.g. first flagellomere 1.7× as long as wide; male scape 2.8× as long as wide ( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 48–55 ); forewing speculum open below; propodeum with median carina with sides parallel and with anterior part blunt ( Fig. 63 View FIGURES 60–67 ); petiole with median carina; female gaster short and ovate, MM/LG = 1.1. Similar to bruchophagus but with head and mesosoma bright metallic and male scape less swollen and with basal ½ pale; and to productus but first gastral tergite partly or completely with punctures in posterior part.
Distribution. Argentina ( Hansson 2009), Belize ( Hansson 2009), Brazil ( De Santis 1980, Sari et al. 2002), Colombia ( Hansson 2009), Costa Rica ( Hansson 2009), Honduras ( Hansson 2009), Mexico ( Hansson & Aebi 2004), Peru ( Hansson 2009), Trinidad & Tobago ( Hansson 2009), U.S.A. ( Ashmead 1888) (from New York and southward (Burks 1971)).
Hosts. Acanthoscelides sp. on Phaseolus spp. ( Hansson & Aebi 2004), A. floridae Horn ( Peck 1963) , A. submuticus (Sharp) ( Peck 1963) , Amblycerus robiniae (Fabricius) ( Peck 1951) , Ctenocolum crotonae (Fåhraeus) ( Sari et al. 2002), Gibbobruchus sp. ( Burks 1971). All hosts are Chrysomelidae : Bruchinae ( Coleoptera ). New records: Acanthoscelides sp. on Mimosa pigra ; bruchid in Acacia farnesiana ; bruchid in Sesbania sp. ( Fabaceae ); Etiella zinchenella ( Lepidoptera : Pyralidae ) on pigeon pea ( Cajanus cajan , Fabaceae ); Leucaena leucocephala (Fabaceae) ; seeds of Symplocos limon (Symplocaceae) ; seed pods of Acacia and Prosopis (Fabaceae) . This species is a parasitoid on larvae of bruchids ( Coleoptera : Chrysomelidae : Bruchinae), other records need confirmation.
Material examined. Type material: Lectotype female of H. missouriensis labeled “ Missouri ”, “Type no. 41369 U.S. N.M.” (USNM); lectotype female of H. popenoei labeled “ Mar. 15 ”, “Riley Co Ks F. Marlatt”, “149”, “1274”, “Type no. 41370 U.S. N.M.” (USNM). Additional material: As accounted for in Hansson (2009).
Molecular data. Horismenus missouriensis equals “HM3” in Kenyon et al. (2015) and molecular data associated with “HM3” is accounted for in that paper.
