Horismenus depressus Gahan View in CoL
Figs 1–4 View FIGURES 1–8 , 14, 16 View FIGURES 13–16 .
Horismenus depressus Gahan, 1930:8 View in CoL . Lectotype female in USNM, designated by Burks (1971), not examined.
Diagnosis. Very similar to H. depressoides , but differs in having a smaller propodeal spiracle ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 13–16 ), female gaster with apex distinctly more pointed ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 13–16 ), and mesoscutum and scutellum dull golden-green ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–8 ).
Distribution. U.S.A. (Arizona (new record), California ( Gahan 1930), Texas (new record )).
Hosts. Stator pruininus (Horn) ( Coleoptera : Chrysomelidae : Bruchinae) from seeds of Acacia and Olneya ( Gahan 1930), Stator limbatus (Horn) on Acacia gregii and Parkinsonia florida (new records).
Material examined. Type material: Two female and two male paralectotypes of H. depressus in USNM. Additional material: USA: Arizona ( Oro Valley ), 63♀ 45♂ ( MZLU, NHM) ; Texas (Brownsville & Roma), 4♀ ( NHM) .
Molecular data. Horismenus depressus equals “HD2” in Kenyon et al. (2015) and molecular data associated with “HD2” is accounted for in that paper.
Remarks. H. depressus is very similar to H. depressoides and has previously been misidentified as this species ( Hansson et al. 2004, Hansson 2009). Due to the difficulty in separating these two species the distributional and biological records presented here include only specimens that have been examined for this manuscript.
