3. Cerasus pseudocerasus (Lindley) Hortulanorum (1826: 28) View in CoL
Basionym:— Prunus pseudocerasus Lindley (1826: 90) View in CoL .
Type:— CHINA. 1825, Unknown s.n. (holotype CGE-15886!).
Heterotypic synonyms:— Prunus involucrata Koehne (1912: 206) . Type: China. Western Hubei, cultivated around Yichang, up to 1000 m, March & May 1907, E. H. Wilson 1 (holotype A-00435618!, isotypes E-00011285!, K-000737034!).— P. pauciflora Bunge (1835: 97) . Type: CHINA. A. A. v. Bunge s.n. (holotype A-00032136!).
Isonym:— Cerasus pseudocerasus (Lindley) Loudon (1830: 200) .
Notes:—As suggested by Mabberley (1984: 441), the name Cerasus pseudocerasus (Lindley) Hortulanorum (1826: 28) has been neglected for more than two and half centuries, which was actually an earlier validly published name. Thus, here C. pseudocerasus (Lindley) Loudon (1830: 200) is suggested as an isonym.
When Prunus pseudocerasus Lindley (1826: 90) View in CoL was published, no holotype was designated and in fact no gatherings were cited in the protologue. As Wilson (1916) suggested, the type of this species was deposited at the herbarium CGE, and the Botanical Register, tab. 800, under the name P. paniculata ( Edwards et al. 1824) View in CoL , was not a figure of P. pseudocerasus View in CoL as Lindley pointed out ( Lindley 1826, Wilson 1916). The only specimen under the name P. pseudocerasus Lindley View in CoL deposited at CGE should be the holotype, because there are no records of there having been any other specimens under the name P. pseudocerasus View in CoL , and no records of any specimen of that name being out on loan even look back through the loans documentation which is very thorough and goes back to the early 1900s (C. Bartram; pers. comm.).
