Selaginella erythropus (Mart.) Spring View in CoL , in Martius, Fl. Bras. 1(2): 125. 1840.
Range: — Costa Rica; Colombia to Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, SC); central and eastern Brazil.
Ecology: —Common; terrestrial on moist riverbanks, steep, wet road banks, and in humid forests, sometimes forming dense colonies; to 1000 m.
Notes: —Among the erect-stemmed species from Bolivia, only this and Selaginella haematodes have red stems. Selaginella erythropus is a smaller plant than S. haematodes , with more irregularly arranged branches.
