Range: —Andes from Venezuela to Ecuador; Bolivia (LP).
Ecology: —Rare; terrestrial and saxicolous on shady, humid river and stream banks, wet mossy rocks, roadbanks, or disturbed forests; 3000–3500 m.
Notes: —Most similar to Selaginella moritziana var. moritziana , which has lateral leaves more acuminate, sporophylls narrower, and leaves thicker-textured, darker green. Differing from S. popayanensis , which has adaxial surfaces of lateral leaves hairy, and prostrate growth (vs. ascending habit). This species, like the next and S. novae-hollandiae , sometimes bears sobols near stem bases.
