Range: —Disjunct in mountains of southern Mexico and Guatemala; Costa Rica and Panama; Venezuela and Colombia; Bolivia (CO, LP, SC).
Ecology: —Uncommon; terrestrial in humid forests, usually on wet mossy rocks; 1100–3100 m.
Notes: —The diagnostic hairs on the adaxial leaf surfaces are usually visible only through a good dissecting microscope, ideally with oblique light so that the hairs cast shadows. A variable species that may comprise several taxa.
