Range: —Disjunct in arid regions from southwestern U.S.A. to central Mexico; northern Peru to Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, PO, SC, TA) and central Argentina.
Ecology: —Common; terrestrial in arid regions, forming mats on bluffs, dry rocky slopes, or cliffs; 1400–4400 m. The only Selaginella on the Altiplano.
Notes: —Branch tips roll up when dry. On average, the leafy stems are thicker than in S. sellowii , and the color is more yellowish.
