Torrenticola ischnophallus Lundblad, 1956
Torrenticola amplexa auct., nec. T. amplexa Koenike, 1908
Material examined: Germany, D 453, Baden-Württemberg, Goldersbach near Teufelsbrücke (TÜ), from a 12-month investigation 1996/97 (122/186/7) (" T. amplexa ", err. Gerecke 2000); SMF 55210, " Torrenticola connexus " Schwarzwald, Titisee, Altenwegbächle bei Ganzenhof 4.10.1951 1255 (1/1/0); SMF 55114, " Torrenticola amplexa " Gr. Delme bei Delmenhorst, 17.04.1908 (1/1/0).
Discussion: Since the synonymization of T. connexa (Koenike, 1908) with T. amplexa (Koenike, 1908) by Lundblad (1956), the latter was considered the only Central European species with shoulder platelets fused to the dorsal plate (former subgenus Rusetria ). Re-examination of museum collections and our own material show that two species (excluding T. ungeri (Szalay 1927) , easily recognizable by the presence of long setae on the apex of Cx-I) with this character state are present in Central Europe. One of them, T. ischnophallus , differing from T. amplexa in a smaller genital field, P-2 and P-4 equal in length (in T. amplexa P-2 longer) and a more slender male ejaculatory complex with anterior keel reduced; has been continuously overlooked and up to now was known only from its type locality in the French Alps. Nearly all Central European records of T. amplexa are now questionable and need confirmation. No case of coexistence of the two species has been detected so far. However, our preliminary reexamination shows that the attribution of SMF 55129 (Schwabach, Erlangen, Stammer 19.9.1949, 927 (1/1/0) to T. amplexa is correct.
