Type locality.— Indonesia, Moluccas, Ambon.
Type material,— Holotype ♂ in leaf litter in ravine near the sea close to Irie, 2.ii. 1995, C.L. Deeleman; 1 ♀ paratype with the holotype and 4 juveniles .
Other material.— None.
Diagnosis.— The male is distinguished from that of all other species by the much elongated, U-shaped embolar plate, the female by the characteristic shape of the epigyne and both sexes by the presence of a spine on tibia IV.
Description.— MALE. Total length 3.8 0 mm. Carapace length 1.80 mm, width 1.28 mm, height 0.65 mm, width head 1.00 mm, width eye region 0.72 mm; abdomen length 2.90 mm, width 1.05 mm. Leg length: leg I 6.90 mm (1.80-2. 80- 1.10-1.20): leg II 5.90 mm (1.40-2. 10-1.50-0.90); leg III 4,75 mm (1.20-1.50 -1,25-0.80); leg IV 6.50 mm (1.60-2. 00 1.90-1. 00), palp 0.40-0.25-0.40- 0.75 mm. Orange -coloured spider, carapace with thin dark borderline and vague radiating streaks, chelicerae orange with dark veins, legs uniform orange. Eyes: AME only slightly larger than other eyes, PM 1 1/2 d apart, 1 d from laterals; no bulge in front of eyes. Chelicerae fig. 416. Sternum shiny with very few shallow pits, for the rest as montana . Dorsal scutum almost reaching tip of abdomen, leaving lateral strips uncovered. Legs: femora only feebly geniculate, tibia I with strong spines: 9pv and 9 rv spines with tuberculate base, tibia II with 9pv and 7rv, tibia III spineless, tibia IV with l-0v, metatarsi I with 6pv and 6rv, metatarsi II 6 pv and 4rv; metatarsus III spineless, metatarsus IV 1v. Palpal femur ( fig. 417) with a row of 4 long proventral spines and 4 short retroventral spines, tibia with one retrolateral apophysis only; tegulum with small conductor and a similarly shaped membranous tegular apophysis, embolar plate flat ( figs 417, 418), embolus proper short.
FEMALE. Total length 4.00 mm. Carapace length 1.85 mm, width 1.32 mm, height 0.70 mm, head width 0.95 mm, width eye region 0.68 mm; abdomen length 2.20 mm, width 1.30 mm, epigyne 0.30 mm wide. Leg lengths: leg I 7.95 mm (1.80-3. 00-2.25 -0.90), leg II 6.10 mm (1.45-2, 30-1.50 -0.85), leg III 4.90 mm (1.20-1.60 -1.35-0.75), leg IV 7.00 mm (1.70-2. 20- 2.10-1.00), palp 0.80-0.30-0.52- 0.80 mm. Leg spination as male, tibia IV with 1v. metatarsus IV spineless. Palpal femur with 6 ventral spines in a row, patella with Id, tibia and tarsus with 1d and 1pl, Dorsal scutum over 2/3 of abdomen. Data on behaviour.— The specimens lived on the ground on dead leaves; both adults and juveniles inhabited a characteristic retreat, consisting of an elongate white silken tube with a round opening on opposite ends ( fig. 419).
Distribution.— Only known from the type locality.
Etymology.— Named after C.L. Doleschall, the first person who studied the spider fauna of Ambon and devoted a large paper to it in 1859.
