Adetogramma T.E.Almeida, PhytoKeys View in CoL 78: 118. 2017 View Cited Treatment .
Adetogramma View in CoL comprises a single Andean species, from Ecuador to Bolivia ( Almeida et al. 2017), and recently documented from northwestern Argentina. It has sometimes been considered to belong to Microgramma View in CoL (as in Tryon & Stolze 1993), because of the simple, scaly blades, but differs from that by the free veins. It has also been treated as an aberrant species in Polypodium View in CoL by some ( de la Sota & Pérez-Garcia 1982), but it appears to have no close affinity with any species now placed in that genus. In 2004, it was found to be an “orphan”, not clearly related to any other polypod genus in a molecular study by Schneider et al. (2004), and recently placed in a genus of its own by Almeida et al. (2017). Phylogenetic analyses show it to be sister to Serpocaulon View in CoL , and these two sister to subfamily Grammitidoideae ( Almeida et al. 2017) View in CoL . Additional characters of the species and genus include the simple blades, large, round to oval sori in single rows on each side of the midrib, concolorous, stramineous rhizome scales, and pedicellate paraphyses with each pedicel attached to a large, ovate, scale similar to the laminar scales; these paraphyses complete cover young sori.
