Microgramma squamulosa (Kaulf.) de la Sota, Opera Lilloana View in CoL 5: 59. 1961.
= Polypodium squamulosum Kaulf., Enum. Fil. 89. 1824.
= Microgramma mortoniana de la Sota, Amer. Fern J. View in CoL 63(3): 64. 1973.
Range: —Andes from southern Peru to Bolivia (BE, CH, CO, LP, SC, TA); southeastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, northeastern Argentina, and Uruguay.
Ecology: —Very common; epiphytic and saxicolous in semihumid forests; (250) 1000–2900 m.
Notes: —This species can be recognized by its venation patterns, the long-ciliate rhizome scales, and lanceolate scales present at least in the proximal third of midvein (may be absent in old fronds). Microgramma mortoniana , recognized as a distinct taxon based mainly on the morphology of the fronds and the rhizome scales, is considered here a synonym of M. squamulosa . Through the range of this species, there is variation in the rhizome scale margins, from sparsely to densely ciliate, as well as in the shape of fertile and sterile fronds; these variations, however are not correlated.
