= Polypodium subvestitum Maxon, Contr. U.S. Natl. Herb. 17: 566. 1916.

Range: —Central Peru to Bolivia (CO, LP, OR, PO).

Ecology: —Fairly common; saxicolous (rock walls) and terrestrial in shrubby rocky habitats; 2350–4200 m.

Notes: —Very similar to P. pycnocarpa , but differs in its ovate, broadly cordate, and often somewhat funnel-shaped blade scales, and slightly broader rhizome scales that are not quite as sharply bicolorous. To the unaided eye, the blade scales appear grayish, whereas in P. pycnocarpa they look blackish. Some specimens are intermediate between both species; more study is needed.

Range: —Greater Antilles; mountains from Mexico to Venezuela and Bolivia (CO, LP).

Ecology: —Uncommon; saxicolous and rarely epiphytic species in deciduous to semihumid forests; 1250–2500.
