( Figs 44–47 View FIGURES 44 – 47 , 59 View FIGURES 56 – 59 )

Comparison. Stethantyx tiputinia sp. nov. is similar to S. aurantia sp. nov. as both have short and broad basal area of propodeum, short second tergite of metasoma and reddish orange mesosoma, but differs from this species by the dark reddish brown to black head (predominantly yellowish orange in S. aurantia ) and shorter ovipositor.

Description. Female. Body length 5.0 mm. Fore wing length 3.5 mm.

Head very roundly and very strongly narrowed behind eyes in dorsal view; temple 0.45× as long as eye width. Mandible with upper tooth much longer than lower tooth. Clypeus lenticular, convex in lateral view, smooth with sparse indistinct punctures in its upper part. Malar space about 0.4× as long as basal width of mandible. Antennal flagellum narrowed towards apex, with 22–25 flagellomeres (25 flagellomeres in holotype); all flagellomeres 1.2– 1.3× as long as broad. Face with prominence centrally. Face and frons finely (often indistinctly) punctate on very finely granulate, dull surface. Vertex and temple dull or weakly shining, with very fine indistinct punctures. Hypostomal carina absent.

Notaulus as a strong wrinkle. Mesoscutum finely granulate and finely (often indistinctly) punctate. Scutellum finely granulate, with lateral longitudinal carinae strong, reaching from its base to posterior end and joining posteriorly. Foveate groove of mesopleuron situated in anterior 0.6 of mesopleuron, strongly oblique, deep and coarsely crenulate, not reaching anterior margin of mesopleuron. Mesopleuron with fine, sometimes indistinct punctures, mostly smooth, finely granulate peripherally. Propodeum granulate, dorsolateral area sometimes indistinctly punctate; all carinae very strong, without adjacent wrinkles. Basal area of propodeum about 1.3× as long as broad, rectangular or widened anteriorly, 0.4× as long as apical area. Propodeal spiracle separated from pleural carina by 1.0–2.5× diameter of spiracle. Apical area flat, anteriorly widely rounded or slightly truncate.

Fore wing with first and second sections of radius angled 95–115°. Intercubitus longer than abscissa of cubitus between intercubitus and second recurrent vein, both these veins not thickened. Metacarpus almost reaching apex of fore wing. Hind wing with nervellus more or less vertical.

Legs slender. Hind femur 4.2× as long as broad, and 0.9× as long as tibia. Hind spurs slightly curved at apex.

First tergite moderately slender, 2.7–3.2× (2.7× in holotype) as long as posteriorly broad, predominantly smooth with petiole strongly striate laterally before glymma. Glymma situated at middle or somewhat behind middle of tergite, joining by shallow furrow to ventral part of postpetiole. Second tergite 1.1–1.2× as long as anteriorly broad. Thyridial depression 2.0–3.0× as long as broad. Ovipositor weakly upcurved, with shallow dorsal subapical depression; sheath about 2.6–2.8× (2.8× in holotype) as long as first tergite and about 3.2× as long as hind tibia.

Head black or brownish black; clypeus, palpi and mandible (teeth black) yellow; face and malar space sometimes also yellowish. Antenna with scape and pedicel yellow, flagellum fuscous. Mesosoma yellowish orange to brownish orange, propleuron and anterior margin of pronotum yellowish. Legs brownish yellow, hind tibia and tarsus more or less infuscate. Pterostigma brown. Tergite 1 of metasoma brown to black; following tergites brownish yellow, dorsally brown in anterior part.

Male. Similar to female but flagellum with 28 segments, malar space shorter and metasomal tergites dorsally and dorsolaterally extensively dark brown, with hind margin narrowly yellow.

Variation. One paratype female with basal area twice as long as broad and half as long as apical area, and one female with flagellum slenderer, with subbasal and mid flagellomeres 1.5–1.7× as long as broad. Face varies from yellow to brownish black.

Etymology. Named after the type locality, Tiputini ( Ecuador).
